Niki Charitable Art Foundation is happy to announce its partnership with local outreach programs to bring art lessons to elementary and middle schools in San Diego, California. This endeavor has been carefully planned over the last couple of years as active fulfillment of Niki de Saint Phalle’s Educational Purpose for the NCAF:

“[…] responsibilities shall include donating excess financial resources to charitable or educational programs that give children, particularly the with little or no exposure to art, the chance to experience art so that it may grow and flower in their imagination.”

Through our partnerships with ArtCORPS and ArtReach, the Niki Charitable Art Foundation is able to fund and teach art lessons to Title I schools, grades TK-8th, all throughout San Diego. During the 2019-2020 school year we serve a total of 4 schools, and 38 class rooms; as well as offer professional development to Teaching Artists providing lesson plan suggestions and project brainstorming.

In Fall 2019 our Art Educator developed and taught two ceramic art lessons and projects tailored to 6th grade and 7th grade social science classes at a local Spanish immersion elementary school.

Upcoming for 2020, we will be teaching in three more schools, through our partners ArtReach and ArtCORPS. There is a school wide sculpture lesson planned for a local Visual and Performing Arts School, with special modifications made for each participating grade. We will also be facilitating  printmaking and bookmaking projects with two more local elementary schools.

In addition to teaching, NCAF has also led and provided a professional development workshop for current teaching artists through our partnership with ArtReach. Through this workshop, artists had the opportunity to practice their own creative skills and exchange lesson plan ideas and techniques with each other, thus providing technical and professional support to colleagues.
