<!--This is La Grande Tempérance, in Place Emile Hamilius in Luxemburg City. The artist is Niki de Saint Phalle. The sculpture in from 1992 and it was acquired together by La Banque Générale du Luxembourg, L’Entreprise de Poste et Télécommunications and the Luxemburg City when Luxemburg was the City of Culture” in 1995. This was part of Niki de Saint Phalle’s Open-Air-Exhibition of “Nanas”. A “Nana” is an ample-bodied woman with wide hips and large breast that that looks like a prehistoric fertility goddess and dressed in a colourful bathing suit. The first series of Nanas were exhibited in 1965 at a gallery in Paris and the Nana has ever since been the artist’s signature creation.

Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) was a French sculptor, painter, and film maker. Her works could be seen in many cities around the world. For example Paradiset (the Paradise) outside the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and La Fontaine des Automates outside the Centre Pompidou in Paris also featuring the work of her second husband Jean Tinguely.
